In addition, the Court Administrator must balance the needs of the other departments that work within the courthouse such as the Clerk of the Court, Sheriff's Office, Office of the State's Attorney, Register of Wills and the Orphans Court. During the construction of the new Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County building in downtown Annapolis, it has been the Office of the Court Administrator which coordinated all efforts with a variety of architects and contractors. A major component of this is the allocation of courthouse space for its many employees - current and future. Structurally, the Court is divided into several departments, each responsible for different aspects of court operations. These departments are: Jury Office; Assignment Office; Family Law Division; Court Reporting Department; Law Library; Civil Case Management; and Information Services. There is a separate section of this web site dealing with each of these departments - please take the time to view each to gain a greater understanding of court operations. Click here to see the organizational chart. In addition to the management of these departments, the Office of the Court Administrator is responsible for the fiscal administration of the court including the preparation of budgets, purchasing, payroll and financial control. With regard to personnel, the Court Administrator oversees recruiting, selecting and works with the county Personnel Office regarding wage and salary determination. It is also the Court Administrator who serves as a liaison with other county, state and federal governmental agencies, media and the general public. It is essential that the Court communicate well with all aspects of our community to ensure a viable court system that serves all citizens of Anne Arundel County.
