Self Help Center and Law Library Update
Family Law Self-Help Center
The Family Law Self-Help Center will reopen for limited in person services beginning on Monday, July 27th. With limited walk-in service, please be aware that most legal assistance can be obtained through the Maryland Courts Self-Help Center online chat or by calling them at (410) 260-1392. Additionally, many family law forms and legal resources are available at through the Maryland Judiciary Form Finder.
At this time, walk-in service at the Circuit Court is primarily limited to those seeking assistance with family law emergencies, protective orders, and motions to postpone/motions to shorten time.
Additionally, how service is provided will look a little different. One attorney will be onsite and one attorney will be offsite. The remote attorney will assist users via an easy to use kiosk set up in a private conference room in the library. Those needing assistance will check-in electronically upon entering the center. Users will be notified via cell phone when an attorney is available to see them, as well as direction on which room to go to meet with the attorney. The individual can also remotely check how many people are ahead of them.
In order to reduce the number of people present in the center, users may receive information after signing in that they should exit the courthouse if it is safe to do so and return when they receive a text that the attorney is ready to see them. Only the person who needs assistance should go to the center.
The hours of the FLSHC remain the same, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed for lunch 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.).
