The Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County records an audio record of all courtroom activity with the use of a CourtSmart Digital Audio Management System.  This system allows simultaneously recording of proceedings before our eleven Judges and six Masters in Chancery hearing cases in different courtrooms.  Members of our Court Reporting Department staff monitor the courtrooms on video screens to ensure that a quality transmission, and therefore quality recording, is received.  These individuals also enter data such as case name, case number, attorney names, witness information, etc.   This "tagging" of information assists in searching the recordings and for a complete and accurate record when a transcript is ordered.  When a transcript is ordered, a CD is made from the digital recording, and the CD is sent out to a transcription company.

Our Court Reporting staff can produce a CD for listening purposes.  CDs are available for $25, but are only available for hearings held after July 1, 1999.  Please note - CDs can only be played back using a computer - software needed to listen to the digital recording is included on the CD.

If a written transcript is needed, an order is placed with the Court Reporting Department.  A CD or tape is made and sent to a private transcription service.  New rates for transcription work effective November 1, 2000 through the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County are as follows:

EXPEDITED (Next day, a.m.) $ 7.00 per page
EXPEDITED (2 - 5 business days) $ 4.00 per page
